Beltane — The Fire Festival of Life & Passion May 1st · Fire Festival · Wheel of the Year Beltane, meaning "bright fire," falls on 1st May as one of the sacred festivals of the Pagan Wheel of the Year. Sitting at the turning point between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice, this fire festival honours fertility, passion, and the full blossoming of the earth. Like its counterpart Samhain on the opposite side of the Wheel, Beltane is considered a liminal time — a threshold when the veil between worlds grows thin and the fae are said to walk freely between realms. Bonfires were lit on hilltops, and people would leap through the flames believing it would bring health and fertility. Maypoles adorned with flowers and greenery were danced around as a joyful expression of community and the celebration of life. At its heart, Beltane honours the sacred marriage of earth and fire, a union representing creation, growth, and renewal. It is a time of love and commitment, vitality, abundance, and creativity, as the world moves toward the full power of summer.
