Lammas, also known as Lughnasadh, falls on the 1st of August as one of the eight sacred festivals of the Pagan Wheel of the Year. Sitting at the cross-quarter point between the Summer Solstice and the Autumn Equinox, this festival marks the beginning of the harvest season and the first cutting of the grain.

The name Lammas comes from the Old English "loaf mass" — a tradition of baking bread from the season's first wheat and offering it in thanks. Its older name, Lughnasadh, honours the Celtic god Lugh, celebrated with fire, feasting, and games in gratitude for the land's bounty. Both threads weave together the same truth: a pause to reflect on what has been sown, what has been reaped, and what is still to come.

At its heart, Lammas honours the turning point between abundance and the waning half of the year — a time of thanksgiving, hard-earned reward, and quiet reckoning with the harvest of our own efforts.
